Game Review – Solitaire Game Review – Travel and Park Maintenance Game
2 min readDustborn, according to the official trailer, is a game about road trips; ghosts, music, families, secrets, romance, betrayal, war, and lots of other stuff. It s produced by Cryptic Studios, an Australian game developer who previously developed RPG’s such as Vampire Clans and Warlock Lord. The game is done in a colorful pastel cartoon art style, which looks like it will be a nice blend of adventure, exploration, reflexes-based action, and skill-based puzzles. It also looks like it will be a nice mix of puzzle and adventure. Below are some screenshots from the game, which you can check out:
Like the title says, this game about road trips is an adventure-adventure game where you have to travel from town to town, solving mini-games along the way, until finally arriving at your destination, where you have to engage in some narrative-driven dialogues. For example, when you first meet your neighbor, you might want to save your relationship, but then another character mentions that there was a fight the night before, so you have to decide whether or not you should go, but if you want to play it safe you should discard your friend’s precious ring. After doing this, you get to travel from town to town, picking up various objects and solving puzzles along the way, then finally arriving at your destination.
As for the mechanics of the game, the mechanics are actually quite neat. The game is made up of two different sets of events: objective events (which give you something good to do) and obstacle events (which causes you to discard cards). When you are faced with an obstacle during a journey, you have to discard cards in order to proceed. Once all of your cards have been discarded, the game will over. At this point, the player with the most cards will have to choose a card, presenting them with the option to discard cards or keep them and continue traveling down the path towards their destination.
